6yr-old Indian-American boy's IQ is greater than that of Einstein

An Indian-American boy has an IQ greater than that of Albert Einstein at the tender age of six.

Pranav Veera has an IQ of 176, while Einstein's IQ was believed to be about 160.

The little boy can recite the names of the U.S. presidents in the order they served in office, and is able to say the alphabet backward.

Given a date back to 2000, Pranav can even tell which day of the week that was.

He is highly competitive at playing Wii video games, and likes to play outside.

Pranav's parents have revealed that he seemed unusually intelligent while playing with alphabet sets, when the boy was just four-and-a-half years old.

He could even recall which letters were certain colours, they say.

"That kind of puzzled us. You have to have not a normal memorization, but some other means of recall," the Chicago Sun-Times quoted his father Prasad Veera as saying.

The little boy's mother, Suchitra Veera, has revealed that he presently loves all kinds of alphabets.

"He loves to collect them, like different colors, different sizes, different materials," she said.

Pranav's parents decided to have his IQ tested at Powers Educational Services in Hyde Park three months ago

"I said, 'Let's try it out, because he seems to do a lot of stuff kind of not quite normal for his age. He tested 176," his father said.

Pranav's teacher Marci Taylor, at McCormick Elementary in the Milford School District, calls him "an amazing child".

"He knows so much, yet he's probably more excited about learning than any child I've ever seen. He shakes with excitement," she said.

What she finds impressive about Pranav is the fact that he knows so many incredible things at the age of 6.

"He loves to go play at recess and climb on the monkey bars," Taylor said.

When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, Pranav says: "An astronaut."

Is Kelly Clarkson pregnant, or just gaining weight?

Kelly Clarkson’s appearance on American Idol this evening has set tongues wagging after Clarkson showed what on the surface at least appeared to be a baby bump.

So is Kelly Clarkson pregnant? The answer is we can’t be sure, but it’s more likely just weight gain. Only recently, Clarkson told Us Weekly that she wasn’t interested at the moment in spawning children. She also told Ryan Seacrest that there is no special person in her life at the moment.

Clarkson, rumored by some to be a lesbian, has had a long battle with weight, often putting on the pounds only to lose them again in a semi-regular fashion.

One thing we can say for Clarkson: if she was pregnant, she’d probably share the news; only earlier today, details of an interview she did with Blender Magazine included gems from Clarkson such as she pisses on her self in the shower, and that she analyzes her snot for illness.

India's richest men lose billions

Indian businessman Anil Ambani has been revealed as the biggest loser on the 2009 Forbes World Billionaire list, losing $31.9bn over the past 12 months.

Mr Ambani, who runs the telecoms and finance arms of the former Reliance Group, had been 2008's biggest gainer.

India's billionaires saw massive falls, with Mr Ambani's brother Mukesh and steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal both seeing over half their net worth wiped out.

The 793 people listed lost 23% of total wealth on average over the past year.

The impact of the global economic downturn on people's fortunes was apparent, with 332 names from last year's list not making the cut.

Anil Ambani's losses saw him drop to number 34 on the list, from number six last year.

Mukesh Ambani, who heads Reliance Industries, saw his fortune shrink from $43bn last year to $19.5bn.

However, despite slipping two places to number seven on the list, he overtook Lakshmi Mittal, boss of steelmaker Arcelor Mittal, as India's richest man.

Mr Mittal's wealth has plummeted from $45bn to $19.3bn, according to Forbes. He fell from number four to number eight on the list.

Parvathy Omanakuttan is here for Pongala

This year’s Attukal Pongala will have some added glamour. Miss World runner-up Parvathy Omanakuttan will be offering Pongala on Tuesday. As it happens, the day of the Pongala is also Parvathy’s birthday as her birth star ‘Makam’ falls on March 10. Her actual date of birth is March 13.

“Yes, this is a thanksgiving. I have always had a strong faith in God that has helped me to control myself in difficult situations. Right from my childhood, I always used to visit the Devi temple at Madapalli in Changanacherry,’’ said Parvathy, who, along with her mother, will be offering the Pongala right inside the temple.

“Thankfully, this time the temple authorities have arranged a special place for ten of us inside the temple,’’ said Sreekala, Parvathy’s mother.

“We will be coming on Saturday and are planning to visit all the temples, especially the Pazhavangadi temple, the Padmanabhaswamy temple and the Sreekanteswaram temple before the Pongala,’’ she added.

This is not the first time Parvathy and her mother will be offering Pongala. Just after she won the Miss South India crown and before winning the Miss India title, they had come to Ananthapuri. “At that time, I had offered to come again if she won the Miss India crown,’’ said Parvathy’s mother. But, somehow, she did not make any promise on the Miss World crown.

Parvathy does not feel betrayed by God in not getting the Miss World crown, which even her co-contestants thought would be hers. “Maybe I had a very small ‘pinakkam’, but I believe that God gives you not want you want, but just what you need - nothing more, nothing less. And I also believe that if God takes something away from your hands, it is to fill your hands with something even more greater,’’ she said.

They would be going back the next day after the Pongala as Parvathy’s brother is in the 12th standard and Sreekala wants to be with him for the exams.

Parvathy has had many offers from the tinsel town, but is yet to decide as she is waiting for guidance from God, in whom she has an absolutely unshakeable faith.

Let us wish that Attukal Devi will show her the way. Let us also wish her a very happy birthday.

Sehwag powers India to series win

Virender Sehwag sped to a century from 60 balls, the seventh fastest in limited-overs international history, as India beat New Zealand by 10 wickets in a rain-reduced contest on Wednesday to clinch the series with a match to spare.

Sehwag's hundred was the fastest by an Indian batsman in one day internationals, beating Mohammad Azharuddin's 62-ball effort against New Zealand at Baroda 21 years ago, and helped clinched India's first win in a limited-overs series in New Zealand.

Sehwag finished 125 not out from 74 balls and Gautam Gambhir was 63 not out as India reached 201 without loss in 23.3 overs, replying to New Zealand's 270 from 47 overs in a rain-affected match.

India's unbroken opening partnership was the largest to win a match in one-day international history.

"I love it," Sehwag said. "I know how the pitches behave here. I played here also in 2003 and scored two hundreds that time.

"This time the pitches are so flat and good to bat on."

Sehwag blasted 14 fours and six sixes in an innings which, around three rain interruptions, occupied only 139 minutes. He rushed to a half century from 31 balls and helped India reached 100 in 54 minutes from 69 balls.

Sehwag passed his century in 87 minutes with 13 fours and four sixes, adding his second 50 from only 29 balls.

Two rain interruptions during New Zealand's innings left them facing only 47 overs and they seemed to have achieved a competitive total of 270 for five.

Britney nearly pops out during an on-stage wardrobe malfunction

Britney Spears nearly bared her breasts after a wardrobe malfunction during a concert in Atlanta.

The blonde singer almost popped out of her outfit as she flung herself around the stage dressed in a bizarre Viking-style studded corset.

Britney seems to have bulked up considerably for her comeback tour - her first in five years.

The singer has been regularly spotted slurping on sugary drinks and gorging on junk food, leaving her lithe schoolgirl image in the dust.

Since the last time she hit the road, the former Disney star has given birth twice, been married and divorced and suffered a very public nervous breakdown which culminated in her losing custody of her children.

But the star is fighting to regain her pop pedestal and so far her 44-date Circus tour has been deemed a success by fans.

Critics however have been less enthusiastic, claiming her lip-synching is a let-down – particularly as tickets for the shows have been changing hands for as much as $750.

Despite her raunchy image on stage, the 27-year-old seemed glad to dress down and play mummy during a trip to Walt Disney World with her sons Preston and Jayden.

The trio were photographed having fun at the Magic Kingdom in Florida where they met Mickey Mouse and a whole host of other cartoon characters.

Pamela Anderson has wardrobe malfunction at fashion show

Here's Pamela Anderson doing what she does best - flashing her body.

The former Baywatch star 'accidentally' had a wardrobe malfunction while walking onto the catwalk with designer Vivienne Westwood at the end of her autumn/winter 2009 Ready-to-Wear collection show in Paris.

It's not the first time Pamela has 'accidentally' shown more than she intended to.

In June 2005 at a Virgin Atlantic Airways bash she popped out of her figure huggin red dress and while on the red carpet once she exposed her nipple as she was interviewed by a TV crew.

However, her most revealing malfunction was in December 2008 she unwittingly gave an uncensored peek of her assets to a studio audience when her dressed slipped down while filming a guest slot for ‘Osbournes: Reloaded’, hosted by Sharon, Ozzy, Kelly and Jack Osbourne

Preity Zinta meets Sachin in NZ

Many Fridays have gone by since we last saw Preity Zinta on the big screen. But the actor has a lot to keep her busy otherwise.

The dimpled dazzler, who is in the Maori Nation on an invitation by New Zealand Cricket and New Zealand Tourism Board, attended the official reception where the Prime Minister of the country, John Key, was also present. Talking about the reception, which had Indian as well as New Zealand players, Preity says, “I interacted with the players and Prime Minister Key, and it was nice to hear the captains, Daniel Vettori and MS Dhoni, give their short speeches.” Ask her how the invitation happened, and she breaks into her trademark giggle, “It just happened! I had some free time and thought I could manage to come here.”

Preity, who is the co-owner of Team Mohali, can’t stop talking about one particular player she met during her trip — the Little Master. “I was looking forward to meeting Sachin Tendulkar here. Naturally, I was very excited when we finally met. It was wonderful to see him get that wonderful century,” she gushes. And did she interact with the rest of the Men in Blue? “Yes, briefly. India is playing great cricket at the moment and I wished them good luck for the series,” says Preity. With the New Zealand Prime Minister, the conversation veered round “cricket, India as a country and general stuff on politics”. She adds, “He was telling me that he used to be an investment banker before he came into politics.”

Speaking of politics, Preity dismisses rumours that she will be contesting the Lok Sabha polls: “It is totally untrue. I have no interest in politics. I’m amazed how a silly story becomes news overnight.”

But despite choosing to stay away from the soap box, Preity is aware that international relations with our neighbouring country is in the news, especially after the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan players in Pakistan. “It was an unfortunate incident. I assured the players that IPL 2 would go off smoothly. Last year, the BCCI went out of its way to provide security and this time too, they will leave no stone unturned to make the players feel safe. I have complete faith in the BCCI and the security arrangements by all the agencies concerned.”

But it wasn’t all work in New Zealand, as Preity indulged her taste for adventure. “I did bungee jumping, sky diving and other casual stuff. It gives me such a rush of adrenaline! It is always wonderful to come to New Zealand, where I shot for Soldier and a few Telugu films. The country, which is known for its scenic beauty, is a haven for adventure sports freaks,” says an excited Preity, who’s recharging her batteries for busy times ahead — both on the field and film sets.

“I will have to bring in a balance. There is so much to do in so short a time. I wish I could get more than 24 hours in a day! On the film front, I have Videsh coming up this month, and then I have Har Pal and Main Aur Mrs Khanna. I am back with a bang after a break!” Well, we wouldn’t have it any other way, PZ.

ICC Women's World Cup: Pakistan achieves historic victory

Pakistan took a step closer towards the Super Six stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup after a historic 57-run victory over Sri Lanka.

This was the first time in women’s ODI history that Pakistan had beaten Sri Lanka in 19 ODI matches and it was also Pakistan’s first ever win in a World Cup match.

Batting first, a solid opening partnership of 47 between Nain Abidi (26) and Bismah Maroof (10) set the team on its way.

Although some steady bowling from Suwini de Alwis (2-19) helped restrict the Pakistan total, some solid contributions from Sana Mir (22 not out), Sajida Shah (21) and Qanita Jajil (11) helped it to 161-7 off 50 overs.

Qanita Jalil (3-33) then led a brilliant display by the Pakistani attack, grabbing three early wickets, as the Sri Lankan top order crumbled.

Some brave resistance from Sri Lankan skipper Shashikala Siriwardena (58 off 111 balls) followed, but only one other player, Dedunu de Silva (13), made double figures as Sri Lanka was dismissed for 104 all out.

Tendulkar stars in 58-run win despite late scare

Sachin Tendulkar made 163 from 133 balls before retiring hurt to spur India to a 58-run win over New Zealand in Sunday's third one-day international.

Tendulkar's ton helped India to 392-4, and they then bowled out New Zealand for 334 in a match that included 31 sixes — the most ever in a one-day international.

Tendulkar reached his 43rd century in one-day internationals and his 91st century for India in all forms of the game, before leaving the field in the 45th over with an abdominal injury.

In reply, New Zealand's Jesse Ryder scored 105, including a century from 72 balls, in a 166-run opening partnership with Brendon McCullum (71) to put New Zealand ahead of the demanding required run rate at the start of their innings.

The openers gave New Zealand faint hopes of victory, given the flat pitch and short boundaries, but those hopes were all but extinguished when seven wickets fell for 52 runs between the 22nd and 34th overs.

New Zealand had slumped to 251-8 in the 38th over before Kyle Mills smashed 54 from 32 balls and Tim Southee 32 from 20 in an 83-run ninth wicket partnership which briefly revived the threat.

Seam bowler Munaf Patel was ordered out of the attack by the umpires after he bowled two high full tosses in the 45th over. Off-spinner Yusuf Pathan bowled out Patel's uncompleted over and captured Mills' wicket, hastening New Zealand's dismissal for 334.

The match produced a total of 726 runs, the second-highest aggregate in one-day cricket internationals, eclipsed only by the 872 runs scored by Australia and South Africa in 2006.

"Frankly, before starting I thought 390 or 380 could not have been an inappropriate score," India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said.

"Our bowling was not up to the mark. When the ball is old and not reversing it's very difficult to bowl yorkers and that's the time you have to use all your experience to bowl in the right areas."

Tendulkar's innings included 16 fours and five sixes or 94 runs from boundaries and helped India to the highest total in a one-day international in New Zealand, surpassing New Zealand's 350 against Australia.

Trisha to act in Malayalam film

Another A-list Kollywood actress is going to make her debut in the Malayalam Film Industry. Trisha has agreed to play the lady love of Dileep in an yet to be titled film to be directed by script writer/director - B.Unnikrishnan.

Right from the 80’s several actresses from other states have come and made a mark in the Malayalam film industry. But Trisha’s entry into the Malayalam filmdom will be very special.

This is because she is currently one among the top most leading actress in Kollywood and also has a big fan following in all the states in south India. In majority of the Malyalam movies, the female actors get enough and more scope to show their acting skills.

And glamour does not get that much prominence as in other film industries. So for Trisha, acting in this new movie can turn out to be a novel experience.

The movie to be produced by Vaishakha movies will commence its production by the end of September.
