FIR filed against Ajay Devgan

A complain has been filed against actor Ajay Devgan for cheating an owner of a production house in Jharkhand.

According to a source, "The FIR was lodged in Argora police station of the city on February 27th by one, Rajesh Kumar Prasad of Kumar Art International (KAI), charging the actor of cheating, as he had not assigned dates for the movie he signed even after taking the signing amount. The complaint states that KAI, which also has an office in Mumbai, signed a movie with Devgan in January, 1995. The actor was to be paid Rs.21 lakhs as his acting remuneration and KAI had paid him Rs.200,000 as his signing amount. But the multiple National Award winning actor, who was supposed to play the lead role in the movie, had spared only few hours and after that never bothered, the complaint states”.

Prasad contacted Ajay’s personal secretary number of times but failed to get any suitable reply. After waiting for 14 long years, he filed a cheating case against him. The FIR has been lodged under different sections of IPC including 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating).

Prasad said that Ajay’s act has not only caused him financial loss but mental stress as well.

Vijay Mallya brings back Gandhi's items for USD 1.8 mn

Indian liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya is very pleased with his purchase of a set of Mahatma Gandhi's personal belongings including his iconic round-rimmed spectacles as he is bringing the national heritage home.

Tony Bedi, the representative of Mallya who bought the items for $1.8 million at an auction in New York, said his client is 'really pleased with the purchase' as 'he is bringing the heritage of the items back to India'.

The circumstances of the auction were unusual, Bedi was quoted as saying by the New York Times.

Los Angeles collector, James Otis 'had a double mind at the last moment,' Bedi said, adding that he did not think Otis's change of heart would prevent the sale from being finalised.

Inside the auction room was a mix between elite Indian-born businessmen and diehard watch collectors. One of the potential bidder was Sant Singh Chatwal, an Indian-American businessman who is close to former president Bill Clinton.

'I made up my mind to go up to maybe half a million,' Chatwal, told the Times in a phone interview before the auction. 'We'll see how it goes.'

'Anything when it comes to Gandhi is emotional, sentimental and patriotic when it comes to Indians,' said Shyan Gulati, chief executive of the Infopeople Corp, an information technology company based on Wall Street.

Describing the scene at the auction house as a Who's Who of New York's Indian elite, Gulati said: 'In the last ten years, Indian professionals are doing extremely well all over the world and they'd like to contribute.'

Murali Sharma plays as cop yet again in '13B'

Character actor Murli Sharma, who has played a policeman in several films, is set to don the same hat yet again for horror flick '13B' even though he admits he is tired of it.

"Every time I make up my mind to move beyond a cop's role, I end up doing it in the next project. Not that I don't enjoy such a role, it's just that I would not like to limit myself. In this movie I play a cop who gets into everything else, except for policing crime and criminals. It's a thriller and I fight the unseen," said Murli, who has played a cop in films like 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na', 'Black Friday' and 'Maqbool'.

54th Idea Filmfare Awards 2008 Winners

The 54th Idea Filmfare Awards 2008 was a glittering, star-shimmering event held on 28th February 2009 at Mumbai's plush Yashraj Studio. Filmfare announced its much awaited winners for the finest talent in Bollywood at the awards night. Saregama to release Karma Aur Holi

Saregama India will be releasing the Sushmita Sen starrer Karma Aur Holi on 6 March 2009.

Written and directed by New York based Manish Gupta, the film has an eclectic mix of star cast from the east and west. Co-produced by Drena DeNiro, daughter of Robert DeNiro, the movie also stars Randeep Hooda, Rati Agnihotri, Suresh Oberoi, Deepal Shaw and international super model, Naomi Campbell, underground rapper Sticky Fingaz and Vincent Pannetta.

Lysa Cooper, who has worked with likes of Madonna, Shakira and Britney Spears, has styled Sen's look in the movie.

Saregama India head of acquisition distribution and new film projects Sharang Sharma says, "We are confident that the movie will be liked by classes and masses as well, and we intend to go in for platform release strategy and will increase the print count as the movie builds up."

The film was shot in New York and its suburbs and Princeton in New Jersey.

Thilan Samaraweer shot in chest: TV reports

Sri Lankan cricketers Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranawitharana were among the six cricketers injured in the attack on the cricket team in Lahore. TV reports say that Samaraweera has been shot in the chest and is being operated upon.

Unidentified gunmen targeted the team as it was entering the Gaddafi Stadium for the ongoing Test match against Pakistan.

A Sri Lankan foreign ministry official confirmed that two players, Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana, have been hospitalized. He said 3-4 more players were slightly injured, including Kumara Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, and that the head coach, Australian Trevor Bayliss, also sustained minor injuries. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

IANS from Colombo reports that CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Duleep Mendis said that double centurion Samaraweera and Paranawitharana were wounded when they were entering the match venue.

Team captain Mahela Jayawardene's father said his son had just called his wife from Lahore to say that he too had suffered minor injuries in his leg during the attack that has shocked the world.

"We were just informed that our players were shot at while travelling to the match venue at Lahore. We are very concerned about the incident," Sri Lankan Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge said.

Six policemen escorting the team bus were killed in the attack that took place as the team was travelling to the Lahore venue to resume the second day's play of the second and last Test match.

6 Lanka cricketers wounded in Lahore attack

Six members of Sri Lanka's national cricket team have been wounded after gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in Lahore, Pakistan,according to reports.

Pakistan Cricket Board security official Nadeem Iqbal says the team members were injured near the Gaddafi stadium where they were due to arrive to play in the second test against Pakistan.

Sri Lankan team manager, Brendon Kruppu, confirmed the incident and said the team's players, Kumar Sangakkara and Ajantha Mendis, are among the injured.

"We are assessing the situation," Pakistan cricket board chief Ejaz Butt said.

In Sri Lanka, sports minister Gamini Lokuge said two other players, Tharanga Paranavitana and Thilan Samaraweera, had been taken to hospital in Lahore, AFP reports.

Unidentified gunmen attacked the bus taking the Sri Lankan cricket squad and its police escort to a cricket stadium in Lahore, according to witnesses and cricket officials.

Six policemen and two civilians have been killed, a police official said. The attack was likely the work of "well-trained terrorists," Lahore police chief, Habib-ur Rehman, said, according to AFP.

The police chief said 12 gunmen attacked the convoy near Lahore's Gaddafi stadium with rockets, hand grenades and automatic weapons and were involved in a 25-minute shoot-out with the security forces.

The Test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan stands cancelled.

Security concerns have plagued Pakistan for years and some foreign sports teams have refused to play here.

Ayesha ties the knot with Farhan

Ayesha Takia and Farhan Azmi had a quiet nikaah with close friends and family at Farhan's restaurant in Colaba last night.

Says an eyewitness, "It was a simple, private ceremony with only close friends and family being present; around 200 people were present. Ayesha and Farhan's outfits were traditional ones and not made by any designers. While Farhan wore a white sherwani, Ayesha wore a gold sharara."

Tonight, Ayesha's mother, Faridah and Farhan's parents, Zaheda and Abu Azmi, will host a dinner and reception for the newly-wedded couple at the CCI Stadium in Churchgate where over 5000 guests are expected.

Lanka army releases pics of Vaiko with Prabhakaran

The Sri Lankan army on Monday released photographs and video footages showing Tamil Nadu politicians, including MDMK chief Vaiko, with LTTE supremo V Prabhakaran.

Discovered at the rebel satellite communication centre in Puthukudiruppu west on Sunday, the photographs show "certain South Indian politicians in LTTE camps in Wanni," the defence ministry said.

The army said that Vaiko has been "photographed" in LTTE uniform, firing pistols with Prabhakaran and delivering "brain-washing lectures to the LTTE cadres".

"These photographs reveal that the plans for a greater Tamil Eelam had been already on the way," the defence minister quoted an analyst as saying.

Vaiko could not be contacted for comments as he is currently lodged in a jail in Tamil Nadu. The MDMK chief and his supporters were taken into custody on Saturday when they tried to show black flags to foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee during his visit to Tuticorin.

"The soldiers have found several recent photographs and video footage in a building earlier occupied by the LTTE cadres showing certain South Indian politicians in LTTE camps in Wanni," the ministry said.

Three of the released photographs show a young Vaiko in conversations with Prabhakaran. It is not, however, known when these photographs were taken.

Sourabhee becomes first female to win Indian Idol

23-year-old petite Sourabhee Debbarma from Agartala scripted history as she became the first female to win the Indian Idol title. She created history by winning the Indian Idol 4 last night.

Sourabhee presented popular numbers confidently and piped other finalists Torsha Sarkar and Kapil Thapa. She walked away with a Rs.10 million contract with Sony TV and a car.

The petite girl has given Tripura a second pan-Indian star within two months of tennis player Somdev Dev Varman reaching the Chennai Open final. The result was based on public voting.

The special attractions of the event were Bollywood stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh, who had come to promote their forthcoming film 'New York'.

Others from the Indian film and music industry, including judges Javed Akhtar, Anu Malik, Kailash Kher and Sonali Bendre, too were present to cheer the finalists.
