Satyam names A.S. Murty chief executive

Satyam Computer Services Ltd. said Thursday it named A.S. Murty as chief executive, effective immediately. The Indian consulting and information technology services provider also said it secured about $130 million in financing,

which will be directed toward working capital requirements. Satyam's board also appointed Homi Khusrokhan, the former managing director of Tata Chemicals, and Partho Datta, the former finance director of the Murugappa Group, as special management advisors

Nayanthara banned from acting in Tamil movies

In a interesting turn of events, Tamil film producers council and Nadigar sangam has banned Nayantara from acting in any further Tamil movies unless further announcement is made from the council. The ban has been a result of the actress walking out of the movie Paiyya, and following this she refused to return the advance of 25 lakhs paid by Subash Chandra Bose, the producer of Paiyya.

Directed by hit filmmaker N. Linguswamy, Paiyaa stars Paruthiveeran Karthi in the lead role and is produced by Subash Chandra Bose. Earlier the industry was abuzz with news that with the current economic conditions, director linguswamy wanted Nayan to take a pay cut but Nayantara decided to skip the movie. Tamanna stepped into the shoes of Nayan for the female lead of this movie.

The TFPC and Nadigar Sangam have conveyed to their members, the producers not to sign her for any future films. They have also requested producers of Telugu and Malayalam movies to not sign her in for any of their further projects!!

Colleges Reopening On Feb 9 - Government

Professional colleges and hostels in Tamil Nadu, which remained closed since January 31 in the wake of the student unrest on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, will be reopened on February 9, an official announcement here said.

The date of reopening of arts and science colleges would be announced later, Chief Secretary K S Sripathy said in a press release here.

On January 31, an order was passed to indefinitely close all colleges, both private and government, following calls for a strike on February 1 by some organisations on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

Kavya Madhavan To Marry Nishal Chandran Today

Kavya Madhavan is all set to enter into wedlock today. As reported earlier, her marriage has been fixed with Nishal chandra whose family is settled in Thiruvananthapuram. Nihaal, who is working in Kuwait as the technical advisor to the National Bank of Kuwait, has also been a child artist.

The wedding will take place today at the famous Mookambika temple, followed by a reception at Kochi on the 9th. There will be yet another reception at Kavya’s native place, Neeleswaram, on February 12.
Kavya is busy acting in ‘Pattanathil Bhootham’, the Mammootty-starrer directed by Johnny Antony, at present.

Born in Nileshwaram in Kasargod district, the 24-year-old actress entered the Malayalam film industry as a child artist in the film “Pookkalam Varavayi” (1991). But she came into the reckoning when she played a role in acclaimed director Kamal’s “Azhakiya Ravanan” in 1996.

And since then she has not looked back and has acted with superstars Mammootty, Mohanlal and Jayaram. Her most successful films have been with actor Dileep. Her popular films include “Meesha Madhavan”, “Madhamabhi”, “Classmates” and “Ananthabhadram”. Kavya said she is happy that her fiance is familiar with her profession.

Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 2 is Back

Last year, you watched as model Nethra Raghuraman beat 12 other gorgeous celebs as they braved dangerous stunts and conquered their fear under mentor Khiladi Akshay Kumar.

Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi will soon be back with Level 2 that begins on Colors later this year, promising a rollercoaster ride of extreme stunts, emotions and "never before seen action on Indian television".

This time, the show is looking out for viewers who have it in them to accompany Akshay and his sultry sena on this mindboggling adventure. Those with an ability to perform under pressure and love and passion for adventure will be chosen through auditions that will be held all over the country later this year. Bollywood's Shilpa Shetty buys IPL stake in Rajasthan Royals

The reigning Indian Premier League champions, the Rajasthan Royals, have sold a percentage stake to the former Big Brother winner and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.

Shetty and her partner, the UK businessman Raj Kundra, have bought a 12 per cent stake in the team captained and coached by Shane Warne.

The deal provides evidence the IPL may be weathering the economic downturn after Shetty and Kundra paid $15.4 million for their stake, which values the Rajasthan franchise at around $140million, a significant increase on the $67 million its owners, Emerging Media, paid for it a year ago.

Manoj Badale, the British businessman and owner of Emerging Media, said "The selling of this stake is part of our long-term strategic approach to build the Rajasthan Royals into a global sports brand.

"Our resources are already focused on on-field investment in the key areas of player development infrastructure; international expansion; and to also support continued investment in our playing staff."

Shetty won Celebrity Big Brother in 2006 and is one of Bollywood's leading actors.

Her investment begins a week when the IPL will once take the spotlight with its second player auction due to be held in Goa on Friday where Kevin Pietersen could earn a contract worth up to $2 million.

Shetty's involvement is change of direction for the Royals who were proud of their underdog tag when they won the first IPL. They were the cheapest franchise and opted to build a team under Warne.

At the first IPL auction they shunned the big names, studied stats and decided to pursue lower profile cricketers with a point to prove such as Shane Watson and Sohail Tanvir.

'I'm not dating Rakhi Sawant's ex-boyfriend'

Actress-dancer Shradha Sharma, who was rumoured to have a romantic liaison with item girl Rakhi Sawant's ex-boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi, has denied any relationship with him and says he is just not “my type”.

“There is nothing between Abhishek Awasthi and me. Actually, he is not even my type. He is a nice guy as a friend, but he can never be my boyfriend,” Shradha said.

“A lot of guys think I am hot and want to have an association with me. If a guy likes me, it's his problem, not mine. I have no time for all this and I am just concentrating on my work,” she added.

Shradha featured in the small screen's saas-bahu dramas like Suno Har Dil Kuch Kehta Hai and Saarthi.

Asked about her ideal man, she said: "Someone who will stand by me, will be madly in love with me and will do whatever I say. I do want to have a boyfriend, but he will have to meet these three requirements."

Shradha left the small screen nearly six months ago to chase the Bollywood dream.

“I am in love with cinema. I wanted to move forward from TV and so decided to try my luck in Bollywood. I am very lucky as I am growing very fast in the industry. I already have three films in hand, but it is too early to talk about it and I am also bound by a contract and so I can't share any details on the projects,” she said.

The Bollywood aspirant has big dreams for her stint in tinsel town and hopes to work with directors like David Dhawan to entertain the audience.

“I want that my first film should be a hit. I want to do entertaining films because the audience doesn't come to theatres to get bored. In fact, a film with David Dhawan would be great. He makes really nice and light-hearted films.”

Shradha was here to perform at an event along with Rakhi Sawant and actress Sameera Reddy. If she is to be believed, the audience went berserk on seeing her performance and was left asking for more.

Priyanka creates history in world cinema

By now it's a known fact that in Ashutosh Gowariker's What's Your Raashee?, Priyanka Chopra plays 12 different characters, each representing a difference star-sign from the horoscope. This makes Priyanka the only actress in the world to play so many characters. The closest that we come to such a massive bodycount for one actor is Sanjeev Kumar in Naya Din Nayi Raat. He played nine different characters.

But what ensued on the sets of Raashee all of last week would count as a unique occurrence in the history of world cinema. Under the choreographic supervision of Raju Khan, Priyanka performed to a song that required her to bring all the 12 characters together in all their varying moods and personalities.

Though Priyanka isn't allowed to speak about it, it was the toughest musical challenge of any actor's career, requiring her to swing from mood to mood at the drop of a beat. Apparently, Priyanka wasn't allowed breaks between shots, as this would have broken the rhythm of the 12 characters as captured in one line of vision.

"Priyanka shot with Raju Khan (who is Saroj Khan's son) for 22 hours at a stretch. At times she couldn't sit or take a breather for hours at a stretch. It was very important to get the continuity right. Otherwise the character's graph would've become lopsided. To dance and emote to a song in 12 different looks and makeup all at once is not an easy thing," reveals a source.

And to think Kareena Kapoor could be doing the song. It's confirmed. The outspoken Kareena says she was indeed supposed to do What's Your Raashee? "Yes it was offered to me and Shahid Kapoor. I'd have loved to do another film with Shahid. But the dates were clashing with Karan's film that Rensil D'Silva is directing with me and Saif."

Kareena also clarifies that her opting out of Raashee had nothing to do with her split with Shahid. "We're professionals, all of us. Even if I'm working in a film with Saif in place of a film with Shahid we're thorough professionals here in Philadelphia. There's no time to party or go out or do any of the fun things. We've been shooting in a tube station in below-freezing temperature and we need to cover as much work as possible in limited time."

Ironically, What's Your Raashee? was offered to Kareena and Shahid just after they split. Now another couple that has broken up is doing the film. But according to onlookers Priyanka and Hurman S Baweja are so compatible off and on screen that it's impossible to tell the status of their personal equation.

"They're laughing and joking on the sets even when they aren't facing the camera. In fact, Hurman was there to support her when she did the tough 12-avatar dance act.

Police Complaint Against Preity Zinta

Actress Preity Zinta's birthday bash on Saturday night turned sour when a patrol team from the Khar police landed at the party.


Following a complaint from neighbouring slumdwellers about loud music being played in the wee hours of the day, a police patrol team reached the actor's house at Quantum Park in Bandra (west).

"We asked them to turn down the volume of the loudspeakers following complaints from some residents in the area around 2 am,'' said an officer from the Khar police station.

The officer said the actor would be penalised for flouting noise pollution rules. No FIR, however, had been filed yet. Attempts to reach the actor for comment failed.

Ash won't accept award without Dad

The French are an emotional people.

But even they must not have been prepared for Aishwarya Bachchan’s response when they conferred their prestigious Officer Dan Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres honour on the pretty Bollywood actress.
“Thank-you, but not now,” is what Ash is reported to have told the French government when its second highest civilian award was announced in her name. Incidentally, this honour has been conferred earlier on Hollywood actors Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. And, on Shah Rukh Khan as well. There’s only one higher French civilan honour — the Legion d’honour which father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, Satyajit Ray and Pandit Ravi Shankar have received.

However, Ash was not turning down the French award. She was just putting it off until her ailing father, Krishna Raj Rai, was well enough to attend the award ceremony. “I wanted my entire family — and that includes my parents, brother, sister-in-law, my husband and his parents, sister and brother-in-law — to be there. My father has been unwell and I wanted him to be there at this important moment,” said Ash. “It will be a glorious moment. But not without my father!” Now that Krishna is well enough, Ash has asked the French government to go ahead with the ceremony. It is likely to be held in Paris when the actress attends the world premiere of her film, Pink Panther 2. “My father will have to brave the long flight. There’s a long list of dos and don’ts for him. But worth it, don’t you think,”Ash said.

Few interesting awards were given away wherein the aptly titled Rakhi Sawant Walkout Award went to the Judges of Nach Baliye 4 for their great walkout when they got pissed off with the contestants. The Sarvottam Hindi Award went to Kapil Nirmal while Arjun Rampal walked away with the Great Laughter Champion Award. Sudeep Sahir won the Award for the Best Role Reversal while Karisma Kapoor won the Cut-Cut Queen Award.
