Will Smith Wants to Play Barack Obama in a Film

Will Smith would love to play President-elect Barack Obama in a film. The "I Am Legend" leading actor admits he would say yes if Obama asked him to take on the role.

"If I'm ordered by my Commander-In-Chief to star in the film, then I'll do my duty as an American," Will said. But the 40-year-old actor doesn't plan to follow in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzengger, moving from acting to politics.

Will admitted, "It's a whole lot more fun to be a movie star. The President is a difficult job with a whole lot of lives on the line with every decision you make." The "Seven Pounds" star added, "In my job I can just bring joy. I don't have to bring bad news so I think I'll stay in my position for quite a long time."

Besides, Will recently also said he wants to play former South African President Nelson Mandela and soul singer Marvin Gaye in a movie about their lives. "I'm not certain I'm actor enough yet. I love both of those, and I need to make sure I'm man enough," said the actor.

Vijay Antony in Vijay's film

Actor Vijay will play the title role in AVM Balasubramaniam's production venture 'Vettaikaran'. The movie starring Tollywood heroine Anushka is expected go to the shooting floors very soon.

Vijay Antony, who shot to absolute stardom with the peppy number 'Nakka Mukka' in 'Kadhil Vizhunthein', will be scoring music for the movie. A thrilled Vijay Antony exuded confidence that all the songs would come good.

'Working with Vijay is in itself a great feeling. I hope I will bring out the album with top quality' he said. Vijay Anthony was introduced to cinema by Vijay's father and popular director S. A. Chandrasekharan.

'Vettaikaran' is Vijay's 49th film. His 50th film however is to be produced by his father.

Simbu sings for a Meera Jasmine film

Simbu has sung a song (‘Karuppai’) for Aadhinarayana, which stars Meera Jasmine and two newcomers in the lead. Producer S. Balaji said this song will prove to be a highlight of the film. Adding that Meera Jasmine's role is very vital to the film, he appreciated her profusely as she is the only senior actress in the lead, taking up the responsibility of carrying the film on her shoulders and guiding the newcomers.

Balaji also lauded Meera Jasmine’s down-to-earth persona, very much evident when, highly impressed with the plot, she readily accepted this film opposite newcomer Gajan. Aadhinarayana (also spelt as Adhinarayana) also marks the debut of Bangalore-based model Yogitha.

Recently, the film crew shot a song (‘Happy New Year’ featuring Yogitha and Gajan) in the real New Year celebrations held at Anna Salai and Marina. With this, the filming of Aadhinarayana is almost complete.

Abhishek and John win ‘Best Couple’ at Star Screen Awards

Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham are the Best Couple at the Nokia 15th Annual Star Screen Awards. That is a first for Bollywood.

It was a first in the history of Indian cinema. The Nokia 15th Annual Star Screen Award for the Best Couple went to two men, who played a gay couple (albeit fake) in ‘Dostana’.

John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan won the golden statuette from under the noses of Aamir Khan and Asin, Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar, and Kaif and Salman Khan. Interestingly, the award was handed out by the other halves of the two men — actors Rai and Bipasha Basu, who giggled like schoolgirls over their men being called a “couple”, insisting they “don’t mind at all”.

“It is an unexpected award to get, and it feels a bit strange. But I am glad to be here to receive the award, and I do miss Abhishek, especially his chest hair,” joked Abraham, stroking host Sajid Khan’s shaved chest, inciting hoots of laughter.

Amid ribald jokes made by hosts Khan and Shreyas Talpade, much of the evening was painted pink. The two hosts vied for Abraham’s attention, Khan even sporting the famous yellow trunks for a bit, and they even made a few presentations dressed in drag. And, yes, it could’ve been cheesy but it actually was a lot of fun.

Perhaps it is light-hearted banter but nevertheless it makes one wonder — is this the tip of the iceberg? Are things really changing in Bollywood?

“It is an achievement that a film like ‘Dostana’ is redefining what couple-hood means,” says Malini Dabbas, who works in the non-profit sector on issues of health, gender and sexuality. Vikram of Gay Bombay, a self-funded organisation, says ‘Dostana’ is an exception but not the rule. “One will always have to deal with stereotypes. It is the spirit in which ‘Dostana’ was done that is inspiring. Not only did it take up the subject but did it well. I do not expect Bollywood to do a ‘Brokeback Mountain’ but this comedy is not malicious,” says Vikram.

“Bollywood has to catch up with the prevailing discourses on alternate sexuality. They made a good start with Fire, and now ‘Dostana’,” says queer activist Lesley Esteves, who also believes that even though the film invited people to poke fun at stereotypes of gay men, it did so without offending many gay people. “I’m thrilled that Abhishek and John won the best couple, and the style with which the award was bestowed on them was even more exciting. I would love to see two women bag the award someday soon,” says Esteves.

One cannot assume that applause at an award function translates into a gay revolution— yet it is a small step in a homophobic society.

Masakali : Masakali is a musical wonder in relation to its melodic and rhythmic treatment. This is the song that will be shown on national TV in the Special Offers for Delhi-6. Rahman is a global actor. It is this seamless, liquid sound, Rahman provides an advantage that few, if any, are able to compete.

Aarti (Tumre Bhavan Mein) : Soundtrack begin serious note of this title track decades. The decade was a song that I was particularly looking forward to because of Rekha Bharadwaj's vocal presence in it. A decent start to the expected music soundtrack for 2009. The melody in the background is so smooth.

Bhor Bhaye : Bhor Bhaye classic Bliss is the purest forms. Here is AR Rahman's attempt to create a classic. The topic is filtered through a classical lens laced formidably as Tableaux and Harmonium.

Arziyan : Javed Ali and Kailash Kher team up to this next song Arziyan. Arziyan is a humbling close to an extraordinary soundtrack of India's greatest composer through the ages. The shooter Tablå remaining. Rahman's melody is easy biggest asset in this song. Prasoon Joshi's Ode to God is a kind of spiritual awakening.

Delhi 6 : The title song, Delhi 6, is another song full of attitude, elegance and style. Here comes the title track for the film are sung by Blaaze, Benny Dayal, Tanvi, Claire and Vivienne Pocha. Dil Gira Dafatan : DIL Gira Dafatan been sung by Ash King with backing vocals by Chinmayee. DIL gira Dafatan is a soul-stirring musical masterpiece! It is a soft romantic track with trademark Rahman touch. Soundtrack will be better.

Hey Kaala Bandar : Hey Kaala Bandar download how much of Ghajini's OST lax. Prasoon broke this record. Lyrics make or break a song. Heavy on the techno beats and strong bass lines, this song leans heavily on the attitude and style. Flooded with rap interlude, it provides little satisfaction for lovers of very melodic music.

Rehna Tu : The last song on the soundtrack. Rehn Tu is euphoric lounge track as triumphs for a number of reasons. Melodien tenderly crawling over you, while the mood of the song captures all the nuances of your attention. Is it true it could have been better, much better.

'Chandni Chowk to China' Releases Today

Bollywood's first ever kung-fu comedy, ‘Chandni Chowk to China' (CC2C) is all set to hit the silver screens today.

World's largest filmmaker Warner Brothers will make debut in India with ‘Chandni Chowk to China', which is regarded as the first Indian live action movie.

Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone starrer movie is expected to put good show. The film will open at 140 theatres in North America alone, the highest release for an Indian movie there, according to a statement by Warner Brothers. The film will be released in 1,600 theatres in India.

In the movie, ‘Khiladi of Bollywood' goes to China as Indian cook and is mistaken for a martial arts expert.

Amitabh blasts 'Slumdog Millionaire' on blog

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has slammed Danny Boyle's Golden Globe award winning underdog drama 'Slumdog Millionaire' for showing India in poor light.

'If 'Slumdog Millionaire' projects India as Third World dirty underbelly developing nation and causes pain and disgust among nationalists and patriots, let it be known that a murky underbelly exists and thrives even in the most developed nations,' Amitabh said in a posting on his blog

'Its just that the 'Slumdog Millioanire' idea authored by an Indian and conceived and cinematically put together by a westerner, gets creative global recognition,' he added.

The 66-year-old also talked about the changing trend in recognition of Indian cinema.

'The commercial escapist world of Indian cinema had vociferously battled for years, on the attention paid and the adulation given to the legendary Satyajit Ray... and not a word of appreciation for the entertaining mass-oriented box office blockbusters that were being churned out from Mumbai.

'Ray portrayed reality. While, the other - escapism, fantasy and incredulous posturing. Unimpressive for Cannes and Berlin and Venice (film festivals),' he explained.

He further wrote: 'But look how rapidly all that is changing. Dedicated TV channels running Hindi cinema on prime timings. Premieres at Leicester Square (referring to 'Chandni Chowk To China'), the home of all Hollywood royalty, thronged by hundreds on the street in cold biting weather.'

Arrangements for Makaravilakku

Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran has said the government will exert pressure on the Centre to declare Sabarimala international pilgrim centre. He said as many as four crore pilgrims visited Sabarimala during the 70-day Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival period.

He said the Assembly was united in the demand for declaring Sabarimala an international pilgrimage centre. Mr. Sudhakaran said various departments attached to the TDB and almost 22 government departments contributed to a great extent in making the pilgrimage a success. Mr. Sudhakaran said the revenue collection at Sabarimala during the Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival crossed Rs.98 crore as on Tuesday.

He said the police as well as the Central forces had done a good job in scientifically controlling the mammoth crowd.

Mamata sings patriotic number in reality show

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Tuesday evening participated in a reality show, organised by a private television channel here, and sang popular patriotic song 'Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo'.

'I believe music is the lifeline of our nation. Though my voice is extremely choked, but still I'll sing a few lines from one of my favourite patriotic songs,' Banerjee said before singing the number originally rendered by Lata Mangeshkar.

She sang the lines on the request of the programme anchor Aditya Narayan who was hosting Zee TV's 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa'.

'Generally, I don't sing. So please don't consider me as a singer. It's a different issue that I hardly get any time to practice singing. I generally get very busy with my political programmes. I think singing is worship and you have to devote some time for it,' she said.

The Trinamool supremeo, who appeared in a new avatar, also wished luck to all the contestants of the reality show.

Mukesh Bhatt's dream of retaining Kangana Ranaut's nude scene in Raaz- The Mystery Continues has come to naught. The Censor Board Committee which saw the film last night has ordered the nude scene to be deleted if Mukesh wants the film to see the light of day.

Also, Raaz has been given an A certificate. However, Mukesh has the option of approaching the Revising Committee of The Censor Board.In this scene Kangana is attacked by the ghost for the first time. According to our sources Mukesh Bhatt, who was present at the screening, was livid with the Censors' decision. There was a big argument between Mukesh and some members of the Board who refused to cow down.

Mumbai Mirror had learnt about the scene nearly15 days back and asked Mukesh for a picture. But Mukesh had said, "I don't want to release the picture as then I may have more difficulty in getting a U certificate for this film. I want a bigger audience for the film" We told him that irrespective of whether he gave us the picture or not, the censors would do their job anyway. But Mukesh did not part with the picture.

We tried to persuade Kangana to get us the picture, but even she was apprehensive about releasing the picture to the media.Vinayak Azad (Regional Officer, Censor Board) confirmed on Friday evening that his panel has ordered Vishesh Films to delete Kangana's nude scene. He said, "My officers have told me that they had told Vishesh films to delete the nude scene. Despite the deletion of the scene, the film will have an A certificate since there is a lot of horror content in it."

Our source clarified, "Obviously, Kangana did not shoot in the nude and she wore a body suit to create an illusion. But the Censors' objection is valid since the viewer will definitely feel that Kangana is nude in the scene."Funnily, Mukesh Bhatt is still living in denial. After we spoke to Vinayak Azad, he told us, 'Raaz - The Mystery Continues' has got a UA certificate. We have not been asked to delete Kangana's nude scene."

'Dev D' is coming armed with not 10 but 18 tracks.

The director Anurag Kashyap's idea must be to give the audience a feel of the musical tracks to be just like the other elements in the narrative like dialogue and some particular expressions.

Thinking of the total time that will be consumed by all these songs, it can be ascertained that the director must have thought of utilizing the power of music not as an element to spice up things but to take the story forward.

The protagonist of the film Abhay Deol's disclosure also makes it quite sure that the Hindi film lovers are going to see an entirely different way in which the music has been used.

The actor talking about 'Dev D' said that it is not at all a verbal film but very much heavy with music and if all of his dialogues in the movie is written down, not more than four pages will be needed.

Some people may feel good that their minds are reacting in an entirely refreshing way after listening to the music tracks of the film

For some others it may feel difficult as they struggle to swing to the groove of the different songs in the film.

This happens only occasionally as normally the intention of music directors will be to create songs in such a way that once it is heard people gets hooked.

With 'Dev D' Anurag Kashyap hopes to break his image of a film maker who likes only to make a certain kind of movies. He also wants to make it clear that he is fully capable of coming out with a movie with all with all the elements that make up a mainstream Bollywood film.

The only difference is that he has carried out his plans not by following others but by making his own way.

At present, he has completed shooting for a bilingual film ‘Aruvadai’ in Tamil titled ‘Vande Mataram’ in Malayalam. Recently, he has geared up with another film titled ‘Adhe Kangal’. Directed by Major Ravi, the film is produced by S.N. Raja of ITA Films.

Shankar finds Rajini's villain!

It is well known that the Rajini-starrer Endhiran's shooting is progressing at a breakneck speed to facilitate a release by the end of this year. The film also stars the former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Director Shankar did not disclose the villain for this movie and kept it a closely guarded secret. But now our sources from Kollywood say that the Bollywood actor Danny Denzongpa is the baddie in Endhiran.

Danny Denzongpa shot to fame after his role in the Hindi film Qurbani became a huge hit.

Yet another source close to the Endhiran team says that the unit is camping at a private engineering college near Chennai to can a few scenes that has both Rajinikanth and Aishwarya. Only the college students and staff are allowed inside the college to maintain privacy of the unit, our source adds.

DMK wins Thirumangalam by-poll

The result for the Thirumangalam by-election, which was held on January 9, was declared on Monday. DMK's Latha Athiyaman won the seat by 39,000 votes.

The by-poll had been in the news following allegations of money distribution, both by AIADMK and DMK. The parties were campaigning aggressive for the election.

There were also reports of violence and a number of arrests.

The by-election had also attracted EC's ire, which filed a complaint against the candidates.

Kate Winslet Wins Two Golden Globes

British film star Kate Winslet won two Golden Globes Sunday night -- for best actress in a drama and best supporting actress in a motion picture.

Winslet, who previously starred in the movies "Iris" and "Little Children," won the best actress award for her performance in "Revolutionary Road" and a best supporting actress honor for "The Reader."

"I have a habit of not winning things," a surprised-looking Winslet said as she took the stage to collect her supporting actress statuette, the first award given out at the ceremony in Beverly Hills, Calif.

She then said of "The Reader's" producers, Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack, both of whom died before the movie was released, "I hope they would have been proud."

"Revolutionary Road" was directed by Winslet's husband Sam Mendes. It co-starred her "Titanic" beau Leonardo DiCaprio.

"Wall-E" picked up the prize for best animated feature film. Also nominated in the category were "Bolt" and "Kung Fu Panda."

Bruce Springsteen won the award for best original song in a movie for his title track to "The Wrestler."

"This is the only time I'm going to be in competition with Clint Eastwood; I know that for sure. It felt pretty good, too," Springsteen quipped, referring to the actor-filmmaker who was nominated for his song "Gran Torino" from the film by the same name.

Shah Rukh Khan Set as Presenter at Golden Globe Awards

Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood's biggest film star and recently named by Newsweek as one of the 50 most powerful people in the world (the only film star on the list), has been set as a presenter at "The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards" .

Deepak Parekh, Kiran Karnik, Achuthan on new Satyam board

Minister for Corporate Affairs PC Gupta said the government has elected three members to the board of Satyam: HDFC chief Deepak Parekh, former Nasscom president Kiran Karnik and former Sebi member C Achuthan. Further appointment, Gupta said, will be made subsequently as required.

Commmenting on the powers granted to the new board, the minister said the new board will be fully independent, and make its own assessment. The chairman would be decided by the board.

The new Satyam board will meet in 24 hours. “All options before the board are open, and it will decide what has to be done in the interests of the company.”

Gupta also refused to confirm or deny if investors like Lazard — Satyam’s single-largest shareholder — would be given seat.

Troubled tech giant Satyam's woes started when its former chairman, B Ramalinga Raju, on Wednesday startled the world by admitting to a Rs 7,000-crore. After the company's stock took a hammering at the bourses, the government intervened and scrapped the board and put this new one in.

Government allows daylong Pongal shows

According to the Theater Owner’s Association press release, Tamil Nadu Government has announced its decision to allow 5 shows to be screened for Pongal. The permit will be valid from January 14th to 20th during the Pongal week according to the notification. Theatres in rural areas are permitted to screen special shows in the morning from January 14th to 18th and noon shows on January 19th and 20th.

What with Naan Kadavul showing signs of pulling out of the Pongal race, looks like only Villu and Padikadhavan will be the frontrunners in the race.

Himesh Reshammiya next role is an Aamir fan

Himesh Reshammiya's ideal is Aamir Khan and today he's raving about it. Himesh even plays a tapori character, Sukku, in John Mathew Matthan's A New Love Ishtory, styled along the lines of Aamir's Munna in Ram Gopal Varma's Rangeela

Himesh, however, denies that he's imitated Aamir's mannerisms in the film. "I haven't copied any of Aamir's traits but just shown that I am his ardent fan in John's A New Love Ishtory produced by Bhushan Kumar. I play a tapori called Sukkubhai.

Sukku is a very real character and completely like Aamir's character in Rangeela. It's a romantic comedy and I play a tapori who is a huge Aamir Khan fan and since I am genuinely a big fan of his, the performance is even more real.

Aamir is definitely a perfectionist and my favorite actor but the decision to style my character on Aamir and make him his fan was John's and the writer of the film."

Has he seen Ghajini? "I have seen Ghajini and have truly loved Aamir's look and performance in it!" But Himesh hasn't spoken to Aamir after watching Ghajini.

He adds, "When I meet him now though, I will give him a warm hug! Two months ago, I had told him on the sets of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa that Ghajini would rewrite box-office history and my predictions have come true."

Himesh's new year resolution is inspired by Aamir today. Himesh says, "My resolution is to work even harder than Aamir Khan does on his films and give the biggest hit of 2009.

I have four releases this year and God willing I will achieve my target in John Mathew Matthan's A New Love Ishtory. "

Dino, Priyanka and Uday in Yashraj's next

After Dharmesh Darshan''s ‘Aap Ki Khatir’, Priyanka Chopra and Dino Morea are back to share the big screen and this time it is for Yash Chopra's next love triangle titled ‘Pyaar Impossible’.

Interestingly, this is Dino and Priyanka's first film under a mega banner. Joining the duo is Yashraj's Uday Chopra, who plays the third angle in the film.

‘Pyaar Impossible’ revolves around a superstar played by Priyanka Chopra, who continues to enjoy her stardom with her on-screen boyfriend played by Dino Morea.


The twist in the tale comes when Priyanka falls in love with Uday, who is a bookshop owner.

The movie is set to hit floors next month and if the movie shoot schedule goes as planned then, the love story could very well hit the theaters this year end.

Husband Arrested For Torturing Actress

Bollywood actress Vidya Sinha, known for her performance in films like 'Rajnigandha' and 'Chhoti Si Baat', recently filed a complaint against her husband alleging mental and physical torture, police said.

The actress' husband, 70-year-old Netaji Salunkhe, was arrested on Wednesday night and later granted bail by a court after Sinha filed a complaint at the Versova police station.

"They have been married for some time now and Salunkhe keeps travelling between Australia and Mumbai," a senior police official from Versova police station said.

The 61-year-old actress met the doctor, who is based in Australia, on the internet after the death of her husband Venkateshwaran Iyer in 1996 and after a courtship they were married, he said.

Salunkhe, who was a widower, had been living with the actress at her suburban Versova residence after their marriage but their relations soured over the last few months, the official said.

"Sinha registered a complaint on Wednesday saying that her husband was mentally and physically torturing her following which he was arrested," he said.
