Injured Sachin replaced by superstar Rajinikanth

Stars replacing other stars is quite common in the film industry. But this is a first of its kind.

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, who was slated to make an appearance in a devotional film is not going to make his acting debut afterall.

And replacing him is, none other than south superstar Rajinikanth

Tendulkar was all set to shoot for an aarti scene in the film Vignaharta Shri Siddhivinayak directed by Yashwant Ingavale.

But now that the cricketer has opted out of the film owing to a knee injury, the film's makers are planning to rope in Tamil superstar and legend Rajnikant to shoot the scene in question.

Angelina Jolie's "Wanted" ads not wanted in UK

Two movies posters for action flick "Wanted" starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy have been banned by the U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority for glamorizing the use of guns and violence and are considered unsuitable for children, media reported Thursday.

A total of 18 people complained about the posters for the film, which were released in the UK in June.

One ad featured Jolie lying on her back across the bonnet of a car, holding a gun next to the text: "We drove through the night at breathtaking speed, destroying everything in our path … welcome to the fraternity. We are a team of assassins, the weapons of fate. Kill one, save a thousand."

Another advert, headlined "6 Weeks ago I was just like you" and with the text "And then I met her ... and my world was changed forever," suggested McAvoy's character's life had been changed for the better since he had become an assassin.

"We acknowledged most viewers would understand the posters reflected the content of an action film," the ASA said in a statement. "However, we considered that because the ads featured a glamorous actress, action poses, several images of, or related to guns and aspirational text, they could be seen to glamorize the use of guns and violence."

While Universal Pictures UK defended their images, it also said the images had already been taken out of circulation, with no plans to use them again in the future.

Malayalam film body threatens to boycott actor Dileep's movies

A faction of the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA) Friday demanded that a row between actor Dileep and director Thulasidas be sorted out within two weeks and threatened to boycott the star's forthcoming movies.

Byju Kottarakara, the spokesperson for the faction led by former MACTA general secretary, said that the producers' association had settled an issue between actor Sreenivasan and the association within a day. According to him, the row between Dileep and Thulasidas was also similar and therefore should be resolved soon.

'The crisis in the film industry started when Dileep backed out from a film to be directed by Thulasidas after collecting money. We raised this issue and for several months the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) and the producers association did not do anything. But when it came to Sreenivasan's issue that surfaced yesterday, all intervened and settled the issue,' Kottarakara told IANS.

He added that they had given a period of two weeks for the matter to be sorted out.

'If this does not happen, we will not allow a single film of Dileep's to be either shot or screened. We have the support of certain political parties because ours is a trade union. We will wait for two weeks only,' Kottarakara warned.

The Dileep-Thulasidas row had sparked a major crisis in the film industry a few months back. After a lot of mud slinging, the Indian Film Employees Confederation (IFEC), an apex trade union body, decided to form an ad-hoc committee and conduct fresh polls to elect a new set of office bearers of MACTA after Vinayan stepped down.

The MACTA comprises 19 organisations that represent all those associated with filmmaking, from drivers to directors besides script writers and professionals from every field - barring producers, actors and actresses, who owe allegiance to AMMA.

Thulasidas had alleged that Dileep, after taking a payment of Rs.4 million four years back for a film, withdrew from the project following a string of flops by the director.

The MACTA has said the actor should work for the director while the AMMA is reportedly supporting Dileep
